Re: David Nelson Band (non-dead) |
Wow! I just finished seeing the last show by the DNB on this annual tour.. I saw two of them and I must say that these were two of the best shows I have ever been to.. Ever! That covers many years. For SURE This band is hot!
The first show I saw was a tour party show on the beach. It lasted over five hours with four sets! They had David Gans along and he sang a great set, and after that it was just an amazing afternoon/evening. There was also Laurie Lewis & Tom Rozum playing some great bluegrass and C&W. After that there was the Brown Chicken Brown Cow String Band playing along with Gans & the DNB! Here is the set list:
01/28/10 (Thu) Kalanikai Bar & Grill - Keauhou, HI
Set 1: "David Gans Solo", Cassidy's Cat > An American Family, Waltzing Across Texas, High Guy, "David Gans,Barry Sless,Mookie Siegel,Pete Sears,Joe Chirco", Sultans Of Swing, The Lonesome Fugitive, Down To Seeds & Stems Again, Let It Rock,
Set 2: "DNB w/ Laurie Lewis & Tom Rozum", Dark Hollow, Freight Train Boogie, In The Pines,Close Up The Honky Tonks, Texas Blue Bonnets, Hippie From Hawaii w/ David Gans, Mind Your Own Business,
Set 3: Set 3, "Brown Chicken Brown Cow String Band", Moonlight Waltz, Cool Breeze, Lil' Sunday, Bees Making Honey > Sweet Georgia Brown, Salt Creek, Irish Medley, Instr, -, Set 4, "DNB w/ David Gans", You're Still On My Mind, Crazy Crazy Crazy, Lazy River Road, "DNB w/ Brown Chicken Brown Cow", Rakish Paddy > Friend Of The Devil, Spike Driver Blues, Fire Tease > Sitting In Limbo, Rocky Road Blues, E: Ballad Of Casey Jones,
This set list is courtesy of the band's web sight, but somewhere in there they also played "The Ballad Of Frankie Lee & Judas Priest". This was a very long, loose and high show.. maybe their list could have missed one or two songs..
Tonight's performance was just off the hook too! It was loud, long, and spacey! What a great band!! David Gans did a solo opening set, and Brown Chicken Brown Cow also did a set. Both were excellent! Tonight's DNB set list was:
01/30/10 (Sat) Royal Gardens Luau Grounds - Keauhou, HI
Set 1: Fable Of A Chosen One > Down The Middle > Sweet Melinda > Diamond Joe, Louis Collins, Any Naked Eye > Every Grain Of Sand > Any Naked Eye,
Set 2: Hand Jive > Different World > Cut & Run > Wicked Messenger > Fable Of A Chosen One > Kick In The Head, E: Ripple > (W/BCBC & David Gans), Box Of Rain (W/ David Gans)
Lineup: David Nelson ~ Mookie Siegel ~ Barry Sless ~ Pete Sears ~ Joe Chirco . Special guests: David Gans , Brown Chicken Brown Cow String Band.
Amazing show!! The Box Of Rain encore was probably inspired by a very light rain that came down earlier during Cut & Run>Wicked Messenger and ended... what a great night! Again, the set list above was provided by setlist.com and is incomplete. Somewhere in there they also played "Long Gone Sam" and the show also featured a huge "Other One" tease before going into whatever jam they were playing. Mind blowing!
The DNB sound so much like the Grateful Dead at times that all I can do is smile, knowing this wonderful music lives on! Thank you David Nelson, and your wonderful band for a real good time!
